 Few
designs become classics. No matter the year, season or political climate,
classics are always in. "Classics" like: a white oxford shirt, a
sports coupe and the tank watch. Originally designed by Cartier, who was
a jeweler not (really) a watchmaker, after seeing the WWI army tanks,
hence the name "Tank Watch". Up until that time it was not considered gentlemanly
to wear a watch on your wrist. The simple yet strong lines and proportion of the
tank watch design lend testimony to the taste of the wearer. The (nearly)
square stainless steel case is 28mm wide (32mm with the crown) and 7mm
thick. Its sapphire crystal protects the face while allowing you to see
the large black roman numeral markers and date window. The case back is
attached via 4 small screws. Water resistance is to 30m. This version has
a nice design element - the hands and the tip of the crown are blue. This isn't
something that you notice at first, but once you know its there your eyes keep
coming back to it. The butterfly clasp completes the symmetrical design theme
and secures this fine Swiss made quartz time piece to your wrist. A
classic design no watch lover should be without.
The GS7800-4556
has a stainless steel case, a white face and roman numerals.
